MSA on WAG

The big news at the WAG this summer is the blockbuster 100 Masters Show. Five centuries of paintings by major artists from Europe, Canada and the United States. Thirty-two galleries from across Canada and Minneapolis are lending some of their most valuable works of art to the WAG. This is a once in a lifetime to see all of these works together in one exhibition. Rembrandt, Rodin, Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Tom Thomson, Lauren Harris, Emily Carr, Borduas, Riopelle, Francis Bacon, Christopher Pratt, Mary Pratt, Alex Colville. The list goes on.   It runs from May 11 – August 18.

Audio guides, drop-in tours almost every Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm (check the schedule for details), 15 minute talks on individual artists every Tuesday and Thursday at 2 pm,  Art for Lunch Wednesdays at noon.

The WAG is also offering eight-week adult drawing and painting classes based on the masters.

Winnipeg Art Gallery Art Rentals and Sales

Did you know that the WAG Gallery Shop has a large collection of art for sale and rent? The collection includes about 200 Canadian artists, with 70% from Manitoba. If you are interested in having your art represented by the WAG Art Rentals and Sales, here is the process:

  1. Update your bio and artist statement and take digital photographs of your art.
  2. Email this information including 4 or 5 images to Aiden Quiring at artrental@wag.mb.ca. She is in charge of the shop and is extremely approachable and helpful.
  3. Once your application has been reviewed, if she would like to see more of your work, arrangements may be made for two WAG art specialists to visit your studio or home to see your art first hand. If they recommend that your work be accepted, Aiden will contact you to discuss the details.
  4. If you do not hear back from the WAG, it means that your work is not what they are looking for at this time. Unfortunately, Aiden won't have time to reply to every email request she receives.

So if you think you would like to apply to have your work hung in the WAG Art Rentals and Sales, go for it. It’s a lovely space with lots of visitors. I have been represented by the shop for the past two years and have been fortunate enough to have work both sold and rented. To see some of the artists that are currently represented, click on the link to the gallery shop:

If anyone is interested in volunteering for the WAG over the course of this year, whether it be helping with kids’ art on the four Family Sundays, assisting school programs, greeting guests, or any other activities, please get in touch with me. We’re always looking for volunteers.
