Christine Marek-Matejka was born and raised in the Swan River Valley where she continues to live and work as a mixed media visual artist and art instructor. She has a BA in art and music and has post-secondary training and experience in teaching young children and adults.

Marek-Matejka's work combines realistic and nostalgic images placed in a refreshingly contemporary setting. Greatly affected by the rural Canadian environment, her memorable images capture the innocent and most fragile of human qualities amidst an often harsh and unpredictable backdrop of nature.

“Whether my images are energetically light or ominously dark, I strive to bring the viewer into potential conflict with his/her preconceptions, to question and analyze the depth of what is actually being portrayed, be it the ragged beauty of a wildflower, the gentle strength of a withered hand's grasp, a side-glance or nostalgic thought, a foot grounded in space, an ominous moment of free-spirited child-play, or the vulnerability of new life.”
